Christmas Shopping and Old Aussie Tales

Christmas is soooo soon :) Hip Hip Horray !

Not much spirit this year though, my family has decided to run away up north, so no tree for us sadly.
I even got down on my knees and begged for one.
I love Christmas personally, unlike my selfish mother who would rather run away in search of hotter weather so that she can mope and sweat with the rest of my family all at the same time.

For those of you in the Northern Hemisphere, and most of you in Aussie land too probably didn't know seeing as I just found out today, b
ut Australia have their own version of Jingle Bells, which I find extremely hilarious. It goes like this:

Dashing through the bush, in a rusty Holden Ute,
Kicking up the dust, esky in the boot,Kelpie by my side, singing

Christmas songs,
It's Summer time and I am in my singlet, shorts and thongs

Oh!

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,
Christmas in Australia on

a scorching summers day, Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!
Oh what fun it is to ride in

a rusty Holden Ute.

Engine's getting hot; we dodge the kangaroos,
The swaggie climbs aboard, he is welcome too.
All the family's there, sitting by the pool,
Christmas Day the Aussie way, by the ba

rbecue.

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,
Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey!Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!
Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden Ute.

Come the afternoon,

Grandpa has a doze,
The kids and Uncle Bruce, are swimming in their clothes.
The time comes 'round to go, we take the family snap,Pack the car and all shoot through, before the washing up.

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,
Christmas in Australia on a scorch

ing summers day, Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!
Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden Ute.

You know what I hate about songs like this though- even if it was created by Australians- it gives off false ideas about general Aussies. I mean, only about 0.000000012% of Australians actually live in an area where you can 'kick up dust' and actually see kangaroos. I had a friend who moved to a school in LA and they asked her if she rode a kangaroo to school and if people drank koala milk ! Who do people think Australians are? Most Australians live by the coast, in fact every state capital runs along the coast of Australia which are fairly highly populated areas where people live in real apartments and real houses real cities. Our city is not a dusty desert where we all live in tree houses with the dingo's who eat our babies. (haha I have to say I do love the line 'Dingoes ate my baby', but that is besides the point). Have you not heard of Sydney's Oxford street, Opera House, Harbour, Bondi and the Harbour Bridge, all of which are iconic Sydney landmarks. I don't think you see kangaroo's hopping around on the steps leading
up to the Opera house or skipping along on the footpath on the Harbour Bridge, unless you can prove me wrong

Anyways, back to Christmas, I found these searching at random places on the net. I got some ideas (including photos) from style.com , so don't forget to give them some of the credit too. Anyways, here are some cute gift ideas.

The headphones are from Nixon. How cool are they! I am actually liking gold at the moment. I used to be a sil
ver girl, but I bought some new sunglasses with a gold frame last fortnight for summer and I think i may now be in the conversion process. What do you think, gold or silver?

I found some really cute china sets at michaelcfina.com. From prestigious selections to casual and basic, there are pretty much cute sets by Michael for everyone, so have a look and take your pic!

Get this one in a range of colours from Apartment48.com or at their store in NYC. I think it's pretty different in a weird contemporary sort of way.

How gorgeous is this vase, I lurvveee it :) Very, very elegant and different- I don't think that I have ever seen a vase where the floral arrangement hang out the side like this one. Available from L'Object at l'object.com

Go for the good old Aussie ugg boot from UGGaustralia available online from uggaustralia.com where you can find over 50 different styles from classic to the super comfy warm looking ones shown to the left. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi !

Apepazza shoes found online at apepazza.com for those in the southern hemisphere, they also had some beauuuutiful flats in their summer collection for about $229 AUD. I must admit, I am not in love with these heels, they are not super hot-feet-killers, but ok for a Doc Martin similar look for work or something of a similar/contrasting statement style perhaps? Not sure. What do you think?

Or these flats also from Abebazza are also pretty cute for a flat alternative for the winter months.

Eugghh. Looks a lot better in real life, trust me. Anyways, this one is from brownsugar.com 's jewelry collection of Spring/ Summer 2009. They also have some other great pieces, this one just $29.95 AUD.

OK, OK, different I Know. But I have one kind of similar, (OK, mine is a lot nicer) and I love it to bits. Mine was vintage from my mum, I just found this one on google because I couldn't be bothered to find a nice one. Sorry, I do actually have a life outside of this blog, so I would rather not go looking for hours (although the next update will probably be a good one I found, hahah :). Found this one from cheapjacks.com/webstore/images/Teal.JPG after googling green velvet jacket. How did thet come up with the name 'google' anyway, it is so random.

Also liking these Ksubi floral jeans which can be found at their website ksubi.com or by calling 02 8303 1400 if you are in NSW, Aussie land (or change the state no. if you are in another territory, etc).

Designed by Texas born Kimberly Hartman, in Februrary this year she launched her own bag brand 'JADEtribe'. To read more about this and other bags, visit jadetribe.com . Alot of her designed are really cute and quite different to other designers who plant themselves in this style of clothing. It is also nice to see someone new on the shelf doing well :)

Note: Those cubic heels are so disgusting, anyone agree? You know, the ones that go up to your ankle in a cubic pattern, usually of paten leather.

Sydney based artist Del Kathryn Barton paints some amaazzzing stuff which you can check out online at http://www.artnewsblog.com/2008/03/archibald-prize-winner-2008-del-kathryn.htm . Her detail and use of symbolism is abundant. Energy radiates from the interconnectedness of her artworks which have funny little juvenile elements portrayed in new emotive ways. I definitely ask that you check these out because some of her works are absolllutelyyy astonishing, her level of detail and creativity is out of this world- you should see the house tour shown in the November 2009 issue of Grazia Australia. It makes you feel so earthy, imaginative and free, her talent is amazing (yes, I do realise how many times I repeated that word, haha)

Back in time to 1949

I met June Dally- Watkins today, Australian 'Model of the Year' and 'Australia's Most Photographed Model of 1949', not that she is still in the same shape. She has some Personal Development School thing as well as her modeling agencies which she basically came to advertise at our school if you ask me. Either that or tell us that at the age of 15 you should act as if you are a stuck up 45 year old who tries too hard, needs to get a life and at leas pretend to not care about what other people think. I blame my school, private girls schools need to learn to let their students live a little I think. Also, I am ever so sad i didn't get any photos, anywho, enjoy these 'well mannered etiquette tips' that she handed out, haha I know I did :)

-Apparently nothing creates a negative impression faster than bad speech, grammar and diction habits. For example, using the words "yep" and "yeah" instead of good old fashioned "yes". Therefore, I must be classified a terrorist, with very bad language skills, haha.

- Never walk down the street eating or drinking, it is très much a 'bad look'

-Never have a conversation while wearing your sunglasses, use your eyes to enhance your communication skills. Yes, that means you, including my mother, remove them now !

-Don't draw attention to yourself with loud laughter or talking. I think we all have someone in mind right now...

-Don't wear T-shirts with any sort of writing on them to keep people interested in you not your shirt. I think that most of us have blown this one at least 10 times.

-Never put your feet on a seat. I wonder, does this include foot stools, because I would miss those.

-Don't ever fold your arms because it is bad for your posture and conveys negative body language. That explains my lack of friends, haha

-Don't wear false nails. I agree, they are so tacky, please stand clear of the plastic ladies (and i really hope the gentlemen do too :)

-Don't use your mobile in public, it is inconsiderate to those around you. I don't think I know one person who hasn't blown this one at one stage or another. Opps.

Also, does anyone know where to find someone to iron my skirt with more skill than this cat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhIK8ZW0Gpk , I do not have the patience to iron a 200 square skirt and my mother doesn't have the appropriate eye sight, poor thing.

Anyways,
Nighty Night :)

The New Coat in Town

LOVING fellow blogger Hanneli Mustaparta's Maison Martin Margiela sheepskin coat, which I found on her blog hanneli.com on the 23rd of November.

It is nice I must say to see something not made out of illegally hunted animal fur, not that the killing of this poor sheet was a good thing...
It also looks reaaaalllyyyy comfy and warm for the cooler months of June, July and August (well, for those in the Southern Hemi-sphere anyways).

Does anyone know where they can find a cheaper version of this fabuleux find?

Welcome to MY blog !

Look who just got her own fashion blog !
The little girl from the edge of Sydney is hitting the streets my friend,
